‘I deserved more under Mou’

Jese Rodriguez has admitted that he felt like he deserved more of a look-in at Real Madrid under Jose Mourinho.

The youngster has earned comparisons with Cristiano Ronaldo in recent seasons for his work with Real Madrid Castilla, but earlier this year declared that he was unhappy at a lack of playing time at the top and that he may leave the club.

Whilst reports suggest Madrid are in talks to extend his contract and even include a first-team clause in a renewal, the player has reiterated that he was frustrated for his lack of work under Mourinho.

“I do not know if there is a problem with Madrid’s cantera. It is a great club and for me the best, and they do what is in their best interests,” reflected Jese to AS this week.

“Perhaps in recent years they have felt that they did not need more homegrown players, they needed to sign from elsewhere, like Mourinho or players from overseas.

“We all know how it turned out, and if he had used more from the youth system it could have been better or worse, that depends.

“Now the club will be making the decisions and in this sense I do not know [if I will get more of a chance], we are all waiting.

“Do I feel like I deserved more of a chance under Mourinho? I think that everyone thinks the same. Those who understand football know that perhaps I deserved more opportunities with Mou.

“Everybody saw it. But the first team did not see it that way, or had other ideas, we have to respect that.

“In this case it was Mourinho, now it is not, so we will see what happens with the next Coach that comes in and see what he thinks.”
