Arsenal close in on Higuain

Arsenal are reportedly prepared to break their transfer record and wage structure to sign Gonzalo Higuain from Real Madrid.

Reports in England this week have it that the Gunners have taken an advantage over Juventus in negotiations for the Argentine striker and could conclude a deal as soon as the end of this week.

Whilst this contradicts Madrid’s reported status as unwilling to sell before they have appointed a new Coach, the Daily Mail assert that the Premier League side are ready to tie up a deal.

It is believed that they will set a new club record of £22m, about €26m, to convince Madrid to part with the wantaway Argentine, whilst they will then hand the 25-year-old a club-high weekly wage of £150,000, about €175,000.

Arsenal are seen as holding an advantage over Juventus in the race for the striker’s signature, due to a reported ability to pay for any deal in a single cash transaction.
