Southampton ponder Banega move

Southampton are thinking about making a move for Valencia midfielder Ever Banega, according to The Sun.

Saints’ boss Mauricio Pochettino, who knows the Argentine international well after his time in La Liga with Espanyol, is looking to increase the quality in his squad before the start of the 2013-14 Premier League campaign.

Banega, 24, made 29 League appearances for Los Che last season with four goals and has a contract at Mestalla until 2015,

Nonetheless, injury and a series of alleged off-the-field incidents have hindered his performances over the past two seasons, despite him being one of Valencia’s most creative players.

The poor economic situation at the club means the Spaniards might favour offloading Banega on a permanent deal, with Southampton weighing up whether to make a €10m offer for the player.
