Arsenal defender linked to Barca

Barcelona have joined the race to sign Arsenal central defender Laurent Koscielny.

The Sun says the Spanish champions have made an enquiry about the €20m-rated French international [pictured, right] – also believed to be a target for Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich – as Barca’s search for a top-class centre-back intensifies.

Recent reports in Spain have linked La Blaugrana with Chelsea’s David Luiz, Daniel Agger of Liverpool and Valencia’s Jeremy Mathieu, with Koscielny’s name now added to that list.

The 27-year-old, signed from Lorient in July 2009 to replace Philippe Senderos, recently hinted he would be open to a move away from the Emirates Stadium.

“I would like to play in other championships and I know that it’s difficult, but I want to win trophies and build my portfolio of medals,” he was quoted as saying.
