Nigeria threat to La Roja group

Nigeria, one of Spain’s group rivals in the Confederation Cup, have been hit by a row over money before the tournament starts.

According to AS, the Nigerian players refused to board the plane taking them to Brazil on Thursday unless they were paid money promised them by their country’s football federation.

However, after FIFA’s intervention the Nigerians were persuaded to board another flight after sorting out their internal differences.

“We talked to the coaching staff and they told us they are going to take part in the Confederations Cup, that their problems are resolved and they will be arriving in Brazil on Saturday,” confirmed FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke.

Nigeria, currently leading their World Cup qualifying group, take on Tahiti at Belo Horizonte in their opening fixture before meeting Uruguay and Spain in Salvador and Fortaleza respectively.
