‘My son wants to go to Real Madrid’

Edinson Cavani’s father has revealed that his son wants to sign for Real Madrid this summer.

The Napoli striker has been strongly linked with a move to Los Blancos or Manchester City, yet while his mother claimed days ago he was talking to both clubs over a proposed transfer, the player’s father admitted where Cavani’s intentions really lie.

“His aim is to play at a club like Real Madrid. That is what he wants and everything points to it.

“Our son, when he is surrounded by his family in private, says he wants to play for Madrid, but if he made it public then it would look bad on Napoli,” Luis Cavani told Marca TV’s Futboleros programme.

“He is hopeful, but this operation does not depend solely upon him. There has been contact with lawyers from Real Madrid but we are waiting for the two clubs to get together.”

What is clear is that any move will be difficult because of the high price Napoli are asking for their prize asset, despite the willingness of the player.

“I hope it gets sorted out and people are encouraged to have dialogue so things are resolved as quickly as possible. Who would not want to play for Madrid?

“But it not only depends on Edi. They are talking about €65m and Napoli will not negotiate for any less, although the player’s wishes are another matter,” said his father.

Luis Cavani’s confession appears to confirm the belief that, despite Carlo Ancelotti still not having taken over the hot seat, Madrid are going to strengthen their attack for next season.

Reports in Spain maintain that once Gonzalo Higuain’s departure is settled then Cavani, Luis Suarez or Robert Lewandowski will be brought in to replace him.
