Jimenez leaving Zaragoza

Manolo Jimenez has been confirmed by Real Zaragoza as on his way out, with Paco Herrera linked as his replacement.

Jimenez was appointed to the club in December 2011 and successfully turned around the club’s fortunes to secure their League status at the end of the 2011-12 season and himself a three-year contract extension.

However, last season saw a reversal in fortune, with a long winless run in the second half of the campaign pulling the team into trouble, which by the last day of 2012-13, they could not get out of.

Whilst their relegation seemingly confirmed the 49-year-old’s exit, official comment has only arrived this week from the club.

Writing in a brief statement, Zaragoza posted that they are working with the 49-year-old tactician ‘to end their contractual relationship as soon as possible’.

Former Celta Vigo Coach Paco Herrera, who last week saw talks with Mallorca break down over contract length, is apparently Zaragoza’s first choice to come in this summer.
