Morata talks up Under-21 teammates

Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata maintains that several of his Spain Under-21 teammates are good enough for La Roja.

Morata, goalscoring hero of La Rojita’s 1-0 win over Russia in Tel Aviv after coming off the bench , believes it is only the quality of Vicente del Bosque’s squad that prevents more of Julen Lopetegui’s players from making the breakthrough.

“It’s obvious that many of our players could already be playing in the national side. the fact it hasn’t happened is because Spain has a fantastic team,” Morata told AS.

Of his goal against the Russians, the 20-year-old said it was all down to intuition.

“If you watch the video I make my run before Thiago [Alcantara] crosses the ball. He put it in very well and the goal was important because it was important to win.

“I’ve already said I came here to help and things went well. Each one of us has to put in his small grain of sand.

“I’m here to help because some of my teammates have been here a long time. I’ve come to learn,” he concluded.
