‘Overseas players good for Spain’

Cesar Azplilicueta has explained by Spain’s national team is strengthened by having a number of its players based outside of Spain.

Jesus Navas is set to become the latest member of the national squad to leave La Liga as he verges on a transfer to Premier League side Manchester City.

For Azplilicueta, who is also based in England, it is no negative that the League sees its national stars playing elsewhere.

“It is a positive that there are Spanish players based overseas because we are out there learning new things, about other football cultures,” explained the Chelsea full-back.

“There is a diversity that makes the national team stronger, and every player who comes in gives their best performance.”

Azpilicueta is part of the squad currently based in the US preparing for friendlies against Haiti and Republic of Ireland, prior to this summer’s Confederations Cup in Brazil.

“The responsibility is there because Spain has won the big titles and this is a title that Spain have not yet won. We have a very nice opportunity to do so and the group is only focused on that.

“The goal is to keep winning, we do not think beyond our next match, which in this case is Haiti, we are preparing for the Confederations Cup and then we will see.

“Fatigue? Our enthusiasm for participating in the games overcomes fatigue. We all love it here and are giving it everything.”
