Montanier: I’ve chosen a project

Philippe Montanier has today said goodbye to Real Sociedad and explained that he has signed with Rennes for the project on offer.

The Frenchman is returning to his native country this summer after two years at Anoeta, to take over at Ligue 1 outfit Rennes.

Having just taken La Real into the qualifying round of the Champions League for next season with a fourth place finish in La Liga, the 48-year-old bid farewell today.

“I want to thank the players, the coaching staff and all the employees in the shadows,” began Montanier to reporters today.

“I hope that none of the players leave this summer, this team has a great future. They are on track and will continue to grow and I hope they repeat their success in Europe.

“Why I have signed with Rennes? Everything has been rumours, but unfortunately I will be earning less money in France after tax.

“After 16 years as a player and four as an assistant, I have decided on an amateur project, a medium-term one.

“There was a choice and that’s it, I cannot change my exit.”

The Coach indicated that he sees La Liga as a place where medium to long-term projects cannot be run.
