‘Dani and I will look after Neymar’

Adriano has made clear that he and Dani Alves intend to help summer signing Neymar adapt to life at Barcelona.

The 21-year-old star has signed for the Catalans in a reported €28m deal from Santos and arrives with a weight of expectation.

In looking ahead to that, his future teammate Adriano has recognised the value in having a fellow Brazilian or two in the dressing room in himself and Dani Alves.

“[Barcelona President Sandro] Rosell has asked us to help Neymar, which we were going to do anyway,” explained the full-back to Globoesporte today.

“Whenever we have spoken to Neymar we have told him that too. We have spoken in the last year about the club, the city and the football here.

“With all due respect to other clubs, he has made the right choice. The role of Dani and I will be very important to help him feel at home.

“I know how important it is to have another Brazilian at your side to help adaptation. We will be the bridge between him and the other players.

“Scrutiny over his personal life? He is already a professional and is advised about that. Off the field the club wants to be careful to not leave things in the Press about your personal life.

“Many people take advantage of the brand that Neymar has, but he is not a guy who spends all night partying.

“At Barca he will have the recognition that Messi is here. The structure is there to become the best in the world.

“Everyone expects a lot from that duo. The two will create a boom of expectation and can make a difference. Messi decides games, which is what made Neymar who he is in Brazil.”
