Iniesta: 100 points is amazing

Andres Iniesta has described Barcelona’s achievement of 100 points as ‘scandalous’ and has also paid tribute to Eric Abidal.

Barca equalled Real Madrid’s League record from just last season for a century of points thanks to a 4-1 win in Week 38 against Malaga.

“We wanted to finish our League campaign strong, win the match, and make sure the fans have a good time,” explained Iniesta afterwards.

“Once we won the league title, we wanted the 100 points, it was an incentive, it’s a scandalous amount of points. It’s one for the history books.”

After the 4-1 win over Malaga, Barcelona paid tribute to Eric Abidal on the pitch with a guard of honour and ceremony.

“Everything we could do for Abidal falls short of what he deserves, he’s shown us so many things, I wish him the best in his professional career and in his personal life.

“We’ve been with Abidal for many years, we’ve lived through a lot of situations together and I’m happy he was recognised by the fans.”

Iniesta was also asked for comment on Victor Valdes, who has intimated he would stay with the club next season, despite seeing out his contract to its expiry in June 2014.

“I hope he doesn’t leave, his contract goes through next year and I hope he stays on at Barca. He said it the other day during his Press conference, he intends to fulfil his contract.

“If he’s with us next season, that would be the best news.”
