Leonardo ban complicates Ancelotti bid

A nine-month ban for Paris Saint-Germain director of football Leonardo has complicated Real Madrid’s bid for Carlo Ancelotti.

Los Blancos want former Juventus, Milan and Chelsea boss Ancelotti to take over from the departing Jose Mourinho at the Santiago Bernabeu, with Leonardo lined up take over from him in the French capital, reports Marca.

However, Leonardo has received the lengthy ban for allegedly pushing a referee in the tunnel after being angered by Thiago Silva’s red card in a 1-1 draw with Valenciennes, a charge the 43-year-old denies.

The suspension, imposed along with a suspended three-point deduction for next season, could now oblige PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi to retain Ancelotti at the Parc des Princes, despite Madrid’s interest in signing him.

However, PSG have confirmed they are appealing against the decision, which it claims is unfair.
