Monaco sign Carvalho, set for Falcao

Monaco have confirmed the signing of Ricardo Carvalho and are reportedly closing in on completing a deal for Radamel Falcao.

El Tigre is understood to have passed the obligatory medical and has reportedly penned a four-year deal at the Stade Louis II for a beleived fee of between €40m and €43m, while Carvalho has arrived from Real Madrid on a free transfer with a one-year agreement.

Falcao’s contract is believed not to contain clauses that would allow him to join Real Madrid or Chelsea next year, both clubs having shown a strong interest him over the past 12 months. It will also make him one of the best paid players in the world alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi on €14m per season.

Meanwhile, Carvalho, who has been out of favour at the Santiago Bernabeu for some time, told assembled reporters it was a new chapter in his career.

“I am delighted to arrive in Monaco to take part in this new adventure. It is a new challenge for me,” declared the 35-year told former Porto and Chelsea man.

The pair become the latest of Monaco’s major signings following the arrival of James Rodriguez and Joao Moutinho from Porto last week for a combined total of €70m. Rodriguez, who knows Falcao from their time with the Colombian national team and at Porto, says he is looking forward to linking up with the 27-year-old again.

“I’ve already played with him and now we are going to be in the same team once more, so I’m sure it will be good. I am proud to be with a friend and hopefully we can do some great things together.

“In one month people will know that Monaco are going to do something big, something good, and we want titles, “he told a Press conference.
