Cavani ‘dreamed of Barca and Madrid’

Napoli striker Edinson Cavani has admitted that as a child he dreamt of playing for Barcelona and Real Madrid.

However, speaking at a Press conference the 26-year-old Uruguayan international was quick to point out that he still has a contract with the Serie A outfit.

“When we are young we always dream and the first teams that spring to mind are those on a world level, by way of their marketing and their image, those that are most watched.

“That leads to you imagining how beautiful it would be to play for Real Madrid or Barcelona,” he explained.

Nonetheless, Cavani says he is ‘very proud’ to play for Napoli and that talk of a big-money transfer to one of Europe’s top teams this summer has not distracted him.

“I have a contract with Napoli and the season has only just ended, with us achieving our goal of the Champions League.

“A achieving a personal goal was also important as I was top scorer in the League,” he added.

Cavani says he is not expected back in Italy until the end of July after representing his country in the Confederation Cup in Brazil, where Uruguay are in the same group as Spain, Tahiti and Nigeria.
