Fulham have confirmed the capture of Fernando Amorebieta from Athletic Bilbao on a free transfer.
The defender had been in talks with Athletic since last summer over a proposed five-year contract extension, but saw a final offer withdrawn by the club in January amid reports he was pushing for a higher wage.
With his contract expiring in June, the player has been free to discuss deals with other clubs and since mid-April it has generally been accepted that he had agreed a deal with Premier League side Fulham.
The London side have today confirmed that they have signed the 28-year-old on a Bosman deal, agreeing a four-year contract.
“I'm delighted to have signed a four-year deal with Fulham and I'm looking forward to competing in the Barclays Premier League next season,” Amorebieta told the club’s official website through a statement released today confirming his move.
“I'm impressed with the talent already at the Club and I look forward to meeting the players for pre-season training in July.”
