Abidal set to leave Barca

Eric Abidal and Barcelona are expected to hold a joint Press conference next week to confirm the player’s departure from the club.

Reports have been in recent days that the 33-year-old has been offered a non-playing role at the club for next season by President Sandro Rosell.

The defender has apparently declined this offer out of a wish to continue his playing career, with reports that clubs in Ligue 1 are interested in his signature for next season.

On from meeting with Rosell, the player has reportedly met with his agent and Barca’s sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta and Vice-President Josep Maria Bartomeu where it is believed that his exit has now been agreed.

Out of contract at the end of June, Abidal and Zubizarreta are expected to attend a joint Press conference next week to confirm the ‘mutual agreement’ for his departure.

This season has seen Abidal battle back to full fitness after undergoing a liver transplant in April 2012.
