‘PSG hope for Ancelotti U-turn’

Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo has reflected on the challenge of trying to make Coach Carlo Ancelotti turn down Real Madrid.

The Italian has informed his Parisian employers of his desire to leave them this summer, amid continued speculation that he will replace Jose Mourinho at the Santiago Bernabeu for next season.

However, following on from President Nasser Al-Khelaifi’s message, PSG’s sporting director believes that the club will try their best to turn the situation around and see that the Italian stays at the Parc des Princes.

“I understand that when Madrid appears, a Coach will have to think,” commented Leonardo in L’Equipe today.

“The situation remains the same as it did yesterday. Let’s see what happens tomorrow.

“We hope that Carlo changes his mind and stays.

“When a Coach gets an offer from Real Madrid, it is a challenge. The discussions begin.

“Madrid have contacted Ancelotti whilst he is under contract, it is forbidden but we are not going to sue! We have not wanted to attack anyone…

“The best thing always is to talk.

“We still have things to build. We will try as much as possible within our power to keep Ancelotti.

“We are willing to extend his contract. We have not contacted any other Coaches. For now, the important thing is to keep Ancelotti.”

Speculation has linked Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva with moves away from PSG if Ancelotti goes, with the latter seen as a target for Barcelona.

But in following on from Silva’s agent, Leonardo has made clear the situation.

“Neither Ibra nor Thiago Silva will leave in the case of the departure of Carlo Ancelotti.”
