Neymar eyes ‘best possible solution’

Neymar has reflected that he is intending to reach the ‘best possible’ solution to his future at Santos, amid further speculation surrounding Barcelona.

Rumours have been that Barca director Raul Sanllehi is in Brazil to wrap up a deal to sign the 21-year-old for the coming summer transfer window.

Reports today from O Globo suggest that the forward has signed an agreement to join the Catalans in July, after the Confederations Cup this summer.

In considering the speculation, the player himself has commented that his decision will not leave his current employers short-handed.

“There are two versions. When I renewed my contract at Santos, everyone congratulated me on committing through to June 2014. I intended to stay,” began Neymar to reporters today.

“Now that I am approaching the end of that contract, everyone says that I am selfish.

“We are going to do this in the best possible way for both sides, that’s what we are trying.

“Talks with Barcelona? I do not know. He has spoken to my father, who knows about these things.

“I do not know anything yet because I have not spoken to my father.”

Meanwhile, Santos Vice-President Odilio Rodrigues has claimed that the player wants to leave.

“Conversations with Barca are ongoing. We want to renew his contract beyond 2014, but Neymar wants to leave and we'll try to reach an agreement,” Rodrigues told reporters this week.

“If there is an offer that's good for Santos and the player, we'll analyse it. We'll receive other offers from European clubs.”
