Atletico Madrid President Enrique Cerezo has claimed that they 'had to win' against Real Madrid on Friday evening.
The Rojiblancos won the Copa del Rey yesterday, beating Jose Mourinho's 2-1 after extra time at Santiago Bernabeu.
And the club's owner has insisted that the times are changing in the capital.
“It was a great day for Atletico,” he told reporters. “But I want to congratulate Real Madrid – they were a great rival.
“We had to win on a day like this, at their stadium. Today has changed the derbies for the future.
“Statistics always go out of the window on important days. It was a great night.”
