Tottenham lead Villa chase

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly leading the way in the fight to sign David Villa from Barcelona this summer.

Previously linked with their north London rivals Arsenal, reports this week have it that Spurs are leading the chase to pick up Villa.

Reports are that the striker, whose contract with Barca enters into its final year this summer, has met with Tottenham Coach Andre Villas-Boas and is enthusiastic for the project at the club.

However, he has also apparently made it clear that considering a move to White Hart Lane will depend on Spurs achieving Champions League qualification, whilst his priority even then will be trying to stay in La Liga, where his family prefer to be based.

Mundo Deportivo report that Barcelona are yet to receive an official offer for the 31-year-old from any club.

Reports in England suggest that Tottenham are prepared to offer the player a €6m annual salary and pay up to €14.5m for his transfer.

Arsenal are seen as still in the hunt for the Spain international, as are Atletico Madrid.
