Barca want Valdes next year

Barcelona are reportedly keen to keep hold of Victor Valdes for next season, even if it means then losing him on a free transfer.

Speculation around the goalkeeper’s future at the club beyond this summer is unclear, in light of his confirmation that he will not be renewing his current deal past its June 2014 expiry.

Where Barca are linked with Vicente Guaita and Pepe Reina as possible replacements to come in this summer, reports today indicate that sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta and some at boardroom level are keen to see Valdes remain this summer.

The belief from within the club reportedly is that having the 31-year-old for a final year as No 1 and to help tutor his replacement, is more valuable to the Catalans than any cash they could receive this summer.

Tito Vilanova is expected to talk to Valdes later this week upon returning from New York, in an attempt to convince him to stay and perhaps renew his deal.
