Courtois to stay at Atleti

Atletico Madrid and Chelsea have reportedly reached an agreement to ensure that goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois stays at the Vicente Calderon for 2013-14.

The Belgian international has impressed in the last two seasons at the capital club, on loan from his London owners, who he has yet to play for following a summer 2011 move from Genk.

However, uncertainty has surrounded whether or not he will be allowed to continue at Atleti for a third season or if Chelsea would recall him to Stamford Bridge to provide Petr Cech with competition.

Mundo Deportivo report today that the Premier League side are content to not do this for next season, having apparently reached an agreement with Los Colchoneros to let Courtois stay with them for a third consecutive season on loan.

It is understood that only Courtois’ signing of a new Chelsea contract, to improve his earnings and extend beyond June 2016, needs to be completed before the move can go through.
