Tebas confirmed as LFP chief

Javier Tebas has been confirmed today as the Spanish Football League’s new President after an uncontested vote.

With no other candidates putting themselves forward to succeed Jose Luis Astiazaran, Tebas was provisionally confirmed in the role last Friday, pending acceptance of his candidacy through due procedures.

That candidacy has now been confirmed as accepted and Tebas has today been officially listed as the LFP’s new President.

Tebas divides opinion in Spain, with a number of clubs seen as unhappy at his appointment in light of his support for the current distribution of television rights.

The new President is speculated as keen to reduce the gap between the highest and lowest earners in La Liga, but only to as little as a five-to-one ratio.

Tebas has commented that his priority in the role will be to root out alleged match-fixing in the game.
