Raphael Varane felt that Real Madrid’s 4-1 loss to Borussia Dortmund was accountable to a ‘team failure’ rather than an individual one.
Los Blancos conceded four to Robert Lewandowski in yesterday evening’s Champions League semi-final first leg.
“We didn't expect a result like this. We expected a much more positive result,” reflected Varane afterwards.
“We approached the game with plenty of ambition.
“We went down to a very aggressive team who were compact and gave us no space.
“Lewandowski played really well and we failed to stop him.
“It's more a team failure than an individual one.”
