‘Malaga have to keep going’

Sergio Sanchez has urged Malaga to keep pushing so long as Champions League qualification is mathematically possible.

The Anchovies has slipped in recent weeks to defeats to direct fourth-place rivals Real Sociedad and Valencia.

Whilst they head into Sunday’s match at home to Getafe five points away from the final Champions League berth, their full-back has urged them to maintain intensity.

“Whilst mathematically we still have a lot of possibilities, we need to ensure now more than ever that we don’t lose any more points,” Sanchez told gathered reporters today.

“We’ve worked so hard throughout the season to stay in the top part of the League table, and with just five or six matches to go, it’s not going to be easy.

“Following last week’s very poor result, we’re more focused than ever on what we need to do.

“It’s taken a lot to rack up so many points over the season, and we don’t want to let it all go now.

“Our next hurdle is Sunday’s match against Getafe, and we need to give it our all in order to keep the three points at home.

“Sunday’s game is a crucial one for us, regardless of the rival and their style of play. We’re fully aware of what’s at stake, and our poor image following last week’s match.

“The team is completely focused on returning to winning ways and resuming our usual style of play, which has got so far this year, and made it an historic season for us.

“This match is vitally important, and we cannot let the three points escape.”
