Diego Lopez: No surrender!

Diego Lopez has urged his Real Madrid teammates to treat next week’s tie with Borussia Dortmund as a final that they ‘cannot surrender’ in.

Los Blancos will go into next Tuesday’s Champions League semi-final second leg chasing a 3-0 win or better thanks to the Germans’ 4-1 victory yesterday evening in the first leg.

“The result is very negative. Now we have to think about Tuesday, that we have a chance of doing something historic to progress, whilst it would be something wondrous if it were to happen,” reflected Lopez afterwards.

“We have the faith and the conviction that can complete the comeback. This match is already forgotten about.

“ In the heads of everyone to do with Real Madrid is the Bernabeu on Tuesday. It is a ground where there have been some historic miraculous comebacks.

“We must be more united than ever. In the first half it was deservedly 1-1, but then we conceded two goals very quickly and they went back, we created chances but could not overcome them.

“We have to forget this quickly, make the best of it in the return leg and we will have our chances.

“Historically there have been miraculous comebacks and some have happened in the Bernabeu.

“With the faith and spirit of the Real Madrid supporters, and everything that this club entails, we can do it.

“We are playing a final now and we will have to suffer and fight. This team cannot surrender. No team ever has. Especially in our stadium.”
