‘I don’t fear for job, but…’

Manolo Jimenez says he does not fear for his job at Real Zaragoza, but concedes after defeat to Celta Vigo that this is a results business.

A last-minute goal from Mario Bermejo settled Monday evening’s relegation battle in favour of Celta 2-1 to send Zaragoza to bottom of the table.

“That we leave from a game like this one with nothing, after a 92nd minute goal from half a shot, is very cruel and unfair,” lamented Jimenez post-match.

“Football has been extremely cruel to my team, but it is clear that we are also to blame for the situation that we are in.

“I want to encourage the fans because they have seen that we have competed in the game and that the players gave everything.

“In the second half we were practically under no danger but in going for the win we have paid. The point could have been good for both halves that we played, it is unfair to lose like that.

“Personally I am suffering as much as the players and the fans, who do not deserve a situation like this.

“I do not fear for my job, that does not matter to me. I’m working with all my strength but I also know that football is based on results.”
