Alexis handed four-game ban

Getafe will be without defender Alexis for four games after he was suspended today for spitting at Real Valladolid fans at the weekend.

After being sent off midway through the second half of the Madrid side’s 2-1 defeat, Alexis was caught on camera spitting up at a section of Valladolid fans as he walked towards the tunnel.

The referee included the incident in his report and subsequently the Spanish Football Federation’s Competition Committee have taken action.

Specifically, the centre-back is given one game’s ban for the initial red card, two for insulting the referee afterwards and one for provoking the fans.

Meanwhile, Sevilla’s Gary Medel has been banned for two games for his sending off against Real Betis, for ‘striking an opponent in the face in a violent manner’.

Sevilla had appealed the sending off, arguing that it was no less an offence than Jose Canas’ initial push that provoked the Chilean.

Raul Rodriguez is also out for Espanyol’s next two games, after insulting an assistant referee at the weekend and having to be restrained by teammates after being sent off.

It’s better news for Real Madrid, who have seen Luka Modric’s yellow card picked up at Athletic Bilbao rescinded, having successfully appealed that he was struck by the ball in the head, not the hand, as originally judged by the referee.
