Carlos Marchena will certainly fall short of reaching an appearance clause to activate an automatic contract renewal at Deportivo.
The veteran centre-back was confirmed yesterday as having suffered a tear in his thigh during the weekend win at Levante, which in requiring six months of recovery, has all but ended his campaign early.
Marchena is out of contract in the summer and was understood to have had an automatic renewal clause in place, should he have reached 30 appearances for the season.
However, even if he was fit to feature for the remaining seven games of the campaign, the 33-year-old would only have tallied a maximum of 29 League appearances.
It means that the veteran will have to negotiate any potential renewal with the club, who are currently in administration.
