Betis want Campbell extension

Real Betis have asked Arsenal to extend the loan of Joel Campbell at the club for another season, according to one of his agents.

The Costa Rica forward has enjoyed a productive year so far at the Benito Villamarin and his success is seen as partly why Betis and Arsenal are negotiating a ‘collaborative agreement’ over possible future transfers.

Whilst part of that agreement sees Los Beticos reportedly first in line for possible loan deals for 2013-14, one of Campbell’s agents has affirmed that the 20-year-old’s renewal has already been requested.

“It is true that Betis want to extend the loan, but nothing has yet been decided, nothing has been agreed,” Joaquim Batica told Marca this week.

“The Spanish club have already made known to Arsenal and to me, but today nothing is agreed.

“He is very happy because the goals we set at the start of the season have been met. He wants to paly and grow and that is what he is doing.

“He could stay longer in Betis, but eventually he wants to play in London.

“It is true that there has been interest from other clubs in Europe. Joel is having a great season and it is normal that other teams are looking at him.”
