Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo joked that his team would have easily defeated Barcelona if Lionel Messi was shooting the other way.
PSG were eliminated at the quarter-final stage of the Champions League on away goals after a 3-3 aggregate draw against La Blaugrana, with the second leg 1-1 result at the Camp Nou hinging on Messi’s second-half appearance from the bench.
“We have been eliminated from the competition by the best team in the world without losing a game,” Leonardo complained this week to reporters.
“It’s amazing but true. I have the feeling of frustration.
“During these two games, the team has been enormous. To make the Camp Nou tremble is not an easy challenge and we succeeded.
“I believe that Barcelona came to be afraid of losing. We scored a goal and if we had been able to manage a second then we really would have had the Camp Nou shaking.
“With Messi in our team, we would have won 6-0!”
