Alves: We must overcome injuries

Dani Alves has assessed that Barcelona must overcome the absences in their squad if they are to achieve their season objectives.

An injury-hit side were put to the test in midweek to record a 1-1 draw against Paris Saint-Germain and book their place in the Champions League semi-finals.

Lionel Messi was only named on the bench, whilst in defence Adriano passed a late fitness test before being withdrawn injured, and Javier Mascherano and Carles Puyol remain sidelined for weeks to come.

“We’re going through a pretty terrible period of injuries to our back line,” mused Alves post-match.

“But if we want meet our objectives we have to overcome these problems.

“Messi’s presence [from the bench in the second half] changed the mood of the entire field and the team with him have been stronger.

“We must try to recover him well because we know that if he plays we are superior.”

The Brazilian reflected on Wednesday’s game.

“We knew that it would be a difficult match, they had little to lose and a lot to win, but we took advantage of our chances.

“They gave it their all and they made it difficult for us, but we knew that we would have to suffer if we wanted to get to the next round.

“Reaching the semi-finals means again having the chance to play at Wembley. We have to prepare if we are to achieve that goal.”
