Ronaldo: We can’t repeat this

Cristiano Ronaldo is happy that Real Madrid managed to win through against Galatasaray, but he has also warned his teammates.

Madrid went into yesterday’s second leg Champions League quarter-final with a 3-0 lead, but almost saw their Turkish hosts wipe it out, when the aggregate score sat at 3-4 in the second half.

After scoring the visitors' two goals on the night either side of Gala’s three, Ronaldo commented on the good and bad he can take from the 3-2 defeat, and Madrid’s eventual progression to the final four on a 5-3 aggregate score.

“I'm very happy about qualifying, we have achieved our objective and now we have to wait to see which team we will play against,” commented the forward.

“We made the match difficult for ourselves, in football you cannot anything give away, you have to play for 90 minutes. What happened here cannot be repeated in the future.

“You learn from your mistakes – the team always give their best but from time to time we make mistakes – this can happen, and the best thing is it happened now and not in a decisive game.

“The most important thing is that Real Madrid are in the semi-finals.”

Ronaldo was quizzed on the chances the club have of picking up a 10th European Cup.

“It could be, we're working for that objective. We want to win the Champions League – we know it's difficult but for me it's possible.

“We have to carry on and the most important thing now is to win the semi-final because we want to be in the final – after that anything can happen.

“We have to keep our feet on the ground, though, as we'll be up against a tough team in the semi-final. [Borussia] Dortmund are a team I've always liked – one of the teams that I thought could go very far.

“There's us and them and we'll see who else comes through, but the most important thing is that we're there.”

The Portuguese’ double yesterday saw him move on to 48 goals from 47 appearances for the season, and 11 from 10 in the Champions League.

“I feel good and motivated and the team is also giving me good passes so I can do my job, which is to score goals.

“The most important thing for me is to help Real Madrid achieve their objectives with my goals, my performances. I am happy to enter in the history of the club and help them qualify for the semi-finals.”
