Messi a doubt for PSG return

Lionel Messi has been ruled out of Barcelona’s next game for certain, after picking up an injury against Paris Saint-Germain.

The Argentine striker, who opened the scoring in the eventual 2-2 Champions League quarter-final first leg draw, pulled up five minutes before half-time in discomfort, before being substituted at the break.

Tests carried out today have confirmed that the player sustained an injury to his right hamstring, and that he will now require an unspecified period of time to fully recover.

The news revealed by Barca is that they will be without the 25-year-old for the weekend game against Mallorca, whilst his availability for next week’s second leg at home to Paris Saint-Germain depends on his recovery.

Messi's absence this weekend means that he will see a record run of scoring in 19 consecutive League games subsequently end.

Barcelona have already seen Javier Mascherano ruled out for up to six weeks with knee ligament damage sustained against PSG.
