Courtois: Chelsea want more time

Thibaut Courtois has revealed that Chelsea have asked for more time to reach a decision with regards his future and if it involves Atletico Madrid or not.

The Belgian international moved to Vicente Calderon in the summer of 2011 on an initial season-long loan deal from Chelsea, immediately after they had bought him from Genk.

Now coming up to the end of a second season on loan with Atleti, Courtois has reflected that he is none the wiser about his destination for 2013-14.

“There is still nothing on my future. It is still the same as I have said in recent weeks. I expected this week to know something, but they have asked for some more time. Maybe they will sign a new Coach, I do not know. But we will have to wait a little longer.

“When I go to Belgium they ask me about my future, also on Twitter and with people on the street they ask if I am staying here for another year.

“Until June I will give everything for Atletico. I want them to get into the Champions League. I’m very happy here and if I can stay for another year, fine, but these are not things that I can decide.

“These are things between the club, depending on what Chelsea want to do with me…”

Diego Simeone has already said that he is keen to keep the ‘keeper for another year.

“I read in the Press and we have spoken for a few minutes about him wanting me for next season. I’m very happy that I am wanted for another year.

“That means they have confidence in me. I cannot say today whether I can stay or not. We will wait a little longer.

“Last year in March I said I wanted to stay, at Chelsea I said this and eventually I signed here in the June. I hope that does not happen this season, but it can happen.”
