Yilmaz: Facing Ronaldo incomparable

Burak Yilmaz is looking forward to Galatasaray’s trip to Real Madrid and the ‘incomparable’ chance to play against Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Turks travel out to Madrid this Wednesday evening for the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final, with Yilmaz and Ronaldo the current joint top scorers in the competition for the season.

“I admire him and am very proud to be competing against him, if only a little…” joked Yilmaz to AS today.

“Playing against him is an incomparable sensation.

“Everyone compares me to him. Of course, those who do are neither my colleagues or myself.

“I am not so arrogant as to believe it. He is a big world star and I am excited to face him.”

The 27-year-old was asked if previous wins over Los Blancos, such as in the 2000 UEFA Supercup, were an inspiration going into this week.

“Yes, absolutely. As Coach Terim has said, our history has been decorated with many victories like this one against Madrid. That gives us confidence.

“We have not had our final say in the Champions League. Let no-one doubt that we will give everything on the field to get a good result ahead of the return leg. The two games will be beautiful.

“I am sure that if we eliminate Madrid, who are an extremely difficult opponent, then we can win the Champions League. Our potential will soon live up to these expectations.

“Our team has great chemistry, we believe in ourselves and always give 100 per cent. And we will do so at the Bernabeu.”
