‘Neymar should already be in Europe’

Ronaldo has urged Neymar to move across to Europe once more and reflected that he really missed an opportunity a few years ago.

The Santos star has in the past few seasons been linked with both Real Madrid and Barcelona, with the latter generally perceived to have a pre-contract agreement of some kind in place with the 21-year-old.

For former Barca and Madrid striker Ronaldo, Neymar and his national team stand to benefit from any proposed move across the Atlantic.

“Neymar is an excellent player and will be one of the best in the world when he decides to go to Europe,” Ronaldo told Globo TV this week.

“He has much talent but it is limited when only in Brazil. He has had several offers from other teams but renewed his contract with Santos.

“It would have been ideal for him to then [circa 2010, 2011] have gone to adapt to European football. He would have matured.

“It would have been the best time to adapt to their football to reach their level before the World Cup in Brazil, with more experience and greater solvency to lead the team.”
