‘Getafe can’t stand in doorway’

Federico Fernandez has determined that Getafe may be going game by game, but that they are hungry to make it into Europe.

Los Azulones are on improved form of late and currently sit eighth in La Liga, two points away from the sixth and currently last European qualification spot.

“We try not to think about making Europe much,” commented Fernandez to reporters this week.

“What we have to do is be hungry, as we have been saying.

“Sometimes it happens that you settle for what you have, but we cannot stand in the doorway.”

The Madrid side face Real Betis on Monday evening.

“They are a good team that has players that can make the difference.

“We need to be aware of their counter-attack and also harm them ourselves on the break, because they also leave room for it.”

The Argentine defender is currently on loan from Serie A side Napoli.

“I have said several times that I am very happy with the decision and I believe that I am doing my bit for the club to achieve its goals.

“I feel important in the group. In my head I am just thinking about doing my best to finish the season as best as I can. Then there will be the holidays and we’ll see…”
