Zubizarreta: PSG will be competitive

Andoni Zubizarreta is full of respect for Barcelona’s Champions League quarter-final opponents Paris Saint-Germain.

La Blaugrana have today been drawn against the Parisians in the last eight of UEFA’s club competition, for a first meeting since the 1994-95 competition quarter-finals.

“PSG have very good players, they are very talented,” reflected sporting director Zubizarreta from the draw in Nyon.

“They are a team that, for their experience, they know how to play these kind of games. I’m sure they will be there until the end.

“They are very competitive. In addition, we will meet several players that we know of.

“The teams that have reached the quarter-finals have done so because they have done well.

“The draw is good or bad depending on whether we are back in Nyon in three weeks [for the semi-final draw]. We should be cautious going into the quarter-finals.”

The former goalkeeper also cast an eye on the other fixtures.

“Bayern and Juventus are two great clubs, in good form. Their tie is probably the most striking. As for the other two, I think there will be a lot of football.

“Malaga and Borussia Dortmund are two teams that are known for playing with the ball. We already know of the potential of Real Madrid, who will face a team of experienced players [in Galatasaray].

““The Champions League will come when it comes, but we now have a match on Sunday against Rayo Vallecano and it is going to be a complicated encounter.”
