‘Milan have prepared us for PSG’

Jordi Alba has reflected that Barcelona go into their Champions League quarter-final with Paris Saint-Germain wiser for their tie with Milan.

The Catalans needed a 4-0 second leg win to determine their Last 16 clash with the Rossoneri in their favour, after losing the first leg 2-0 in Italy.

For Alba, the team now face PSG in the quarter-finals having learned their lesson.

“Clearly they are a very difficult opponent, but I think we will be fine,” began the full-back in today’s Press conference.

“Right now we have learned a lot from the previous round against Milan to take into facing PSG. We will try to win and move into the semi-finals.

“Are PSG a preferred choice? We had no choice. PSG are a very complete team. Defensively they are strong and they have top quality players. This year the draw is this and there is no getting around it.

“It is true that they have very good players in attack. Lucas Moura too. They are a totally different team to Milan, but we have to learn from the previous round. We must correct our errors. They have very good players. Thiago Silva, Lucas Moura, Lavezzi, Ibrahimovic, Beckham now…

“Would we have preferred Real Madrid? We have PSG, all the opponents are hard. I do not think that Galatasaray are lucky for facing Madrid. When you are in the quarter-finals all the teams are very difficult.

“We were the favourites [last round] and we were given a surprise.”

Alba was talking ahead of Barcelona’s League match at home to Rayo Vallecano.

“They are having a great season. They are very aggressive. I like the way they play football.

“We must keep our form going in the League. We are calm. The other day [against Milan] was the real Barcelona.

“We must continue at the same level of play and aggressiveness through to the end of the season.”

The full-back covered the length of the Camp Nou pitch in the dying moments of Barca’s game against Milan in just eight seconds, to score the fourth and final goal in the midweek game.

“Yes, it was one of the most important for what it mean. It was decisive because we had suffered. It is true that if we had fallen then things would have been different.

“Now we see things differently, with more joy. We must now try to win the League as soon as possible, winning games and also winning the knockout games in the Champions League.”
