‘Mallorca to believe against Madrid’

Gregorio Manzano sees both the positives and negatives to seeing his Mallorca team face Real Madrid this weekend on improved form.

Mallorca have secured back-to-back victories in La Liga to give themselves a fighting chance of pulling out of the relegation zone.

However, they sit two points adrift of safety in travelling to the Santiago Bernabeu this Saturday evening.

“Yes it is a shame to face them after winning two in a row, but it is what it is. It is true that the good feelings at the club need to be continued,” reflected Manzano to reporters this week.

“We all know who the favourite is, but we have to stay until the end with the positive feelings from the last games.

“If we do this, the team will grow. Although the game is of the greatest difficult, after this there are 10 more, but let’s play this one and see what happens.

“Now we go on to the field with a different mentality, we think we can beat anyone, and so we have to do so again against Madrid.

“In football, nothing is impossible and, although the differences are great, in 90 minutes we can provide a surprise. One hopes that Madrid do not have a perfect day…”

Manzano also dismissed the idea that Madrid will be easier to defeat, with their focus on the Copa del Rey and Champions League this season.

“Madrid, as an institution and for what it represents, is bound to win everything, and even more so at home.

“Then, better or worse on the night, the mental concept of the players is to win in whatever circumstances and in every game. Another thing is that the game is the prelude to an important event for them.

“They have taken some time to reach second and they will want to keep it and not lose the fight with Barcelona until they are champions. I expect the best of Real Madrid this weekend.”
