Resino: Derby at 50-50

Abel Resino sees Celta Vigo’s chances going into the Galician derby as 50-50 with rivals Deportivo.

Friday evening’s game between the regional neighbours at Riazor is also a meeting between 20th and 19th place, with Depor six points beneath Celta and nine away from safety.

Even with the gap in points, Resino doesn’t place his visiting Celestes as favourites to win, perhaps with the League’s worst away record in mind.

“I see the game as at 50-50. They are saying that it is their last chance to try and catch the rest in La Primera and so we’ll see what Deportivo we encounter,” reflected the recently-appointed Coach.

“They may go for the game from the start or be a bit more conservative.

“It’s an important game, not only because Depor are the historic rival, but also because the team needs to raise its level away from home.

“Winning at Riazor would be a very important step, especially as it would strengthen us in so many aspects.

“The team is doing well, but the only way to confirm the theoretical recovery is to pick up the points. To not win hits your confidence and belief.”
