Xavi Hernandez will skip the weekend’s game against Rayo Vallecano after re-injuring his thigh muscle against Milan.

The 33-year-old struggled to shake off a thigh strain initially suffered in February to be fit for Tuesday evening’s 4-0 win over the Rossoneri and only received a late all-clear from the club’s medical staff.

Barca have confirmed that the player has once more strained his right thigh and will sit out the weekend’s home match with Rayo as a result.

However, reports in Spain also have it that Xavi remained on the pitch to finish yesterday evening’s game in pain.

It is believed that the midfielder sustained the injury midway through the second half, but refused to come off, opting instead to play the remaining 15 minutes with the discomfort.
