Roque Santa Cruz believes that Malaga deserved their Champions League Last 16 win over Porto on Wednesday evening.
The Costa del Sol outfit turned around a 1-0 deficit from the first leg thanks to Isco’s long range effort in the first half and then the Paraguayan substitute’s header in the second half, to win the second leg 2-0 and progress through on aggregate.
“I think that this group of players and the fans deserved this,” Santa Cruz declared afterwards to UEFA’s official website.
“The friendship and closeness within the squad is fundamental. I am happy to have scored and for that fact that we won.
“The supporters were spectacular tonight. I have only witnessed an atmosphere like this in World Cup qualifiers.
“We are all so happy and now we must enjoy what we have achieved here.”
