Thibaut Courtois is reportedly one step away from having his loan deal at Atletico Madrid extended for another season.
The Belgian has been at the Vicente Calderon for the past two seasons on loan from Chelsea and has impressed during that time.
Atleti are reportedly pushing to keep hold of him for another year, but were reportedly anticipating his exit this summer in light of Chelsea’s believed interest in taking him back to Stamford Bridge.
However, AS report today that the goalkeeper is just ‘a step away’ from seeing terms on another 12-month extension to his stay with Atletico confirmed.
It is understood that Los Colchoneros and The Blues have laid the groundwork in place for Courtois’ continuation at the Vicente Calderon, but that it will not be completed until the season is ended and Petr Cech’s suitability to stay as Chelsea’s No 1 is determined.
Meanwhile, Courtois is also set to be handed an improved, extended contract by the Premier League club. His current deal, signed in 2011 upon moving from Genk, expires in June 2016.
