Ernesto Valverde was happy with Valencia’s performance against Paris Saint-Germain, admitting that poor finishing was perhaps to blame for the result.
The Valencians recorded a 1-1 draw at the Parc des Princes, to lose 3-2 on aggregate in the Champions League Last 16.
“We came here with the hope of getting through. It was hard but as the game went along we had the dream of scoring a goal that would destabilise them,” reflected Valverde post-match.
“We’ve done that, but then we were soon pulled level again. But, the tie was open until the end.
“They settled after the equaliser because when at 0-1 they were very exposed. A draw had them relaxed.
“To us, it did not matter anyway because we needed another goal. We tried, with many corners and balls in the box. Eventually we lacked clarity, we were tired.
“The first half we were aware of their counter-attacks. This was a continuation of the first leg. We lacked clarity in certain aspects and in the second half we managed a little better.
“Their goal came from an unfortunate mistake from us.
“We lacked clarity in the end, power, speed, but hey, we tried. We are out, but we are aware that the team has been good and has shown their face.
“We leave with our head held high, although eliminated.”
