Ariel Ortega has invited Barcelona’s Lionel Messi to appear for his testimonial match for River Plate this coming June.
The 39-year-old confirmed this week that the final week of June will see his farewell match at the Monumental Stadium and that Messi, among others, has been invited to appear.
“I say goodbye at the Monumental, it will be in the last week of June and I hope that the stadium will explode,” Ortega told AM 1220.
“It is going to be amazing. When approaching the day I will not be able to sleep. Honestly, I cannot believe that there is a tribute match to me, it did not even enter my thoughts.”
Ortega’s much-travelled career includes an early spell in Spain with Valencia.
