‘Harder for PSG than first leg’

Carlo Ancelotti admits that Paris Saint-Germain were made to work for their 3-2 aggregate win over Valencia on Wednesday evening.

The French went into the second leg in Paris with a 2-1 advantage, but struggled against Los Che, recording a nervy 1-1 draw thanks to Ezequiel Lavezzi’s equaliser to Jonas’ early second-half strike.

“Having done what we have done in the two games, I think we have deserved the classification to the next round,” reflected Italian Coach Ancelotti post-match.

“Today was more difficult than in the first leg. During the first half we relaxed a bit, but paradoxically the team reacted very well after Valencia’s goal.

“They created us some concern and opened up the tie. But my players have reacted well, the first goal woke them up, and they were more offensive and more decisive.

“This team is a mystery, many of the players have never played in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

“But we will use the energy in this competition and in the League. We are very happy.”
