David Albelda has once more strongly hint that he is leaving Valencia in the summer, commenting on his ‘last Champions League game’ for the club.
Albelda has spent 19 years at Mestalla and captained the team for yesterday’s 1-1 draw against Paris Saint-Germain, which saw them eliminated at the Last 16 stage 3-2 on aggregate.
The veteran has made 64 appearances for Los Che in the competition – just one behind record holder Santiago Canizares – and followed up a previous message that he is leaving with a goodbye this post-match.
“I think this was my last game with Valencia in the Champions League,” Albelda commented to reporters.
“It was a privilege to give my two cents in this arena with Valencia, who are now competing with the greatest. I feel privileged to have played all my life in this team.
“We were hoping to turn the tie around. Today we were psyched to achieve this feat, we have done well, but it was not sufficient.
“It is a shame because it has been seen that the level PSG are at is not so different from that of Valencia, even if across the entire tie they have been better.
“The economic differences are very big. We leave with our head high, we have competed despite some difficulties.”
